Intel refers to "Iris" the integrated graphics Haswell, 4th Generation ... - Clubic

few weeks of the official launch of the fourth generation of Core processors, Intel shared with the press a few details about the upcoming integrated processor using micro-architecture Haswell chipset.

For several generations now Intel is working hard on its integrated graphics. With each new micro-architecture improvements are palpable even if the founder is still unable to compete with the integrated AMD APU example graph. With the next generation of Core processors, Intel will not two versions of the graphic part of its chips but three. The chipset base GT1, will have six execution units, the intermediate circuit, GT2, will have 20 threads when dénombrera 40 threads for the GT3.

That’s the simple things. Otherwise, Intel will adapt its different circuits based graphics market segments covered by its processors (Ultrabook, desktop, server, etc.) and therefore the expected level of performance and TDP required. So branding that is the trade name will be affected. And the GT-based Pentium reserved for particular be called Intel HD Graphics when the GT2 can take as the name Intel HD Graphics 4600/4400/4200 based processors while there are three variants of the GT3 with three different names, since ‘ Intel introduced a new brand called “Iris”. Depending on the chip and its TDP, it will have to do an Intel HD Graphics 5000, Intel Iris Graphics 5100 or Intel Pro Graphics Iris 5200. It’s still the model, and only one, who will benefit from additional eDRAM memory when it comes to processor BGA, this acts as an additional memory cache. Finally a line to say that this time, except in the case of BGA processors, desk top processors will settle the GT2, GT3 and its variations are reserved for Ultrabook which seems rather logical.

side graphics performance, Intel makes some numbers. Thus we gain up to 3x performance desktop processors 3DMark comparing the performance of integrated graphics with a Core i7 3770K to those of a Core i7-4770R (version BGA desktop). The same comparison between a Core i7 3770K and Core i7-4770K limit the gain to 2.5x.

In the wake of this new trade name Iris, Intel introduces new CPU logos with thumbnail resolutely flat We will let you discover below.

We will of course the opportunity to return in more detail on the Haswell micro-architecture and performance gains advertised graphics circuits embedded in our dossier on the fourth generation of Core processors and waited for June 4 .
