Apple has acquired PrimeSense for € 255 million - Digital Zone

PrimeSense, the designer of the Kinect was bought by Apple $ 345 million. This is the Israeli newspaper Calcalist which that information relates. Cupertino reportedly paid 255 million to acquire the Israeli company specializing in 3D vision sensors.


PrimeSense has developed a technology to have a 3D vision using sensors. This technology has already been used by Microsoft to develop its Kinect sensor for the Xbox console. PrimeSense is an Israeli company founded in 2005 in Tel Aviv, which is able to develop a 3D chip that provides digital devices the ability to observe a three-dimensional scene. This start-up has raised $ 20.9 million from Gemini Israel Funds Ventures, Genesis Partners, Silver Lake Partners and Canaan Partners. This company specializes in 3D motion recognition company interested Apple to develop its products with the ability to integrate this technology at the heart of Apple TV or iWatch as PrimeSense’s technology has evolved to the point of miniaturization.

This acquisition has not yet been confirmed by Apple. If this were the case, it would be the second conducted by Apple in Israel after acquiring Anobit in 2012, which specializes in flash memory. According to sources familiar with the matter, relayed by AllThingsD, the deal between Apple and PrimeSense is being negotiated but not yet finalized.
