effect has occurred. SFR, the second French trader who had hitherto kept out of the marketing escalation in recent weeks around 4G, announced Thursday it would also offer phone service in its fourth generation range low-cost Red.

Effective January 14, 2014, “SFR adds a new 4G Red 5GB package to its range of 100% web and without commitment”, to 25.99 euros, the operator says in a statement. Red range now includes four packages sold “naked” (without phone), ranging from 4.99 to 19.99 euros. SFR indicates that also includes the “unlimited viewing YouTube videos 4G” in its offer 4G.

Free Mobile (Iliad Group) surprised the industry in early December offering 4G to its customers on all packages, including low-cost 2 euros, without increasing rates. This was a severe blow for other telecom operators who hoped to charge more for 4G offers, which allow to have a mobile internet speed equivalent to that of a landline, to regain the value after the war prices due to the arrival of Free Mobile in 2012.

It was followed on Tuesday by Orange who announced that he would propose 4G from January 9 to the highest of the four packages offered by Sosh, its low-cost brand, to 24.99 euros with 5 GB of data.
