gift of the U.S. space agency. NASA has released a seven-minute video to revive the Apollo 8 mission Dec. 24, 1968. A mission that was intended to capture the dark side of the Moon. Result, one of the most famous photographs in history, Earthrise (Sunrise Earth).

There are forty-five years, 24 December 1968, Commander Frank Borman, the pilot of the command module, Jim Lovell, and Lunar Module Pilot William Anders, are responsible for taking pictures of the face hidden from our nearest satellite.

They interrupt their mission to take those of Earthrise. “Wow, is not it beautiful!” Enthuses William Anders. “Hey, do not take this picture, it is not programmed,” laughs Frank Borman.

first shot in black and white. Then a second color. The video shows that astronauts have been very fortunate to attend the scene. The spacecraft turned at just the right moment. NASA has reconstructed the course of events from the records of the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter, which were mixed with images and the soundtrack of the Apollo 8 mission.

photo, entitled Earthrise , has been selected by the great magazine Life as one of the images “that have changed the world.”
