IFC put on new technologies – Togolese Republic

On the sidelines of the IMF meetings and the World Bank now unfolding in Washington, the State Minister in charge of Economy, Finance and Development Planning, Adji Oteh Ayassor met Wednesday officials from the IFC (international Finance Corporation).

Vera Songwe, the new Director Western and Central Africa, said that his institution was prepared to engage in new projects in Togo .

She mentioned in particular the areas of new technologies and solar energy, via the Scaling solar initiative.

This project was initially an advisory role to governments for their to identify the best sites provide a contractual package, allowing them to carry out a competitive, transparent, and able to attract the best investors in the solar. Then it allows you to make financing available to all bidders. It offers, finally, insurance instruments and risk management (policy related to foreign currency, etc.).

With regard to new technologies, Ms. Songwe stressed the need for Togo to acquire a high quality broadband to enable the more advantage of the opportunities the internet.

She gave the example of Kenya, where many applications suited to the African market saw the day with access to Broadband. She also cited Senegal where young developers have developed an app to inform people of the countries affected by the Ebola virus.

‘There Togo as elsewhere in strong demand and a need for technologies. Logical because it opens up new job prospects and success, explained the representative of the IFC.

Vera Songwe also referred to the risk-sharing system to allow certain corporations to develop their activities.

$ 1 billion on the table each year, IFC stands out as an essential player in the field of infrastructure in Africa.

In Togo, IFC financed in particular HeidelbergCement clinker factory and transshipment port operated by Lomé Container Terminal (LCT).
