Kenya: new technologies to break the taboo on … – Africanews

Breaking the taboo on sexuality education in schools, it is the stated objective of an awareness campaign called I AM, I am French.

The challenge of breaking the old practices to adopt newer and protect children from sexual diseases, was launched in Kenya in 2012. But these self-help groups face a conservative society. The bill on the introduction of education on sexual health in the adolescent program had even met stiff resistance from legislators.

For some, this would have reduced the number of people with sexually transmitted diseases. Forcing non-government agencies to take over. According to recent statistics, the youth infection rates of 15-24 is very high due to the lack of information on sexually transmitted diseases.

In a country where 70% of the population under 35, non-government organizations are fighting to change attitudes. They have to rely on new technologies to reach a greater number of people. This group of self-help also trains girls and women in various income generating trades such as beading and sewing.
